Zuru - Our Cultural and Leadership Experience

Zuru, adopted from the Swahili word meaning 'Tour', is a social and cultural exchange program for young leaders in Africa and Globally. It was founded in 2019 as a programme under Campde Voices.

The goal of Zuru is to foster the spirit of global citizenship in the hearts and minds of young leaders to promote tolerance and enhance intercultural relations through social and cultural exchanges.

As a parent programme, Zuru currently hosts 'Zuru Africa' as its first sub-program. The mission of Zuru Africa is to promote social and cultural integration among Africans in Africa.

In 2019, the organization, under Zuru Africa, developed and implemented our maiden social and intercultural exchange project dubbed, 'Twende Rwanda'. Through this, young leaders from Kenya and Rwanda have had the opportunity to interact and develop intercultural linkages with their peers.

Through Zuru, the organization brings together young leaders from different parts of Africa and the World to proactively engage in social and cultural activities. This is done deliberately in order to instill and foster tolerance among the future leaders of our communities and nations for a more peaceful world.

    Tuko Freshy Mtaani

Adapted from words in both Kiswahili (Tuko) and English (Fresh), the name 'Tuko Freshy' is translated to mean 'We are Fresh!'. Therefore, the name, 'Tuko Freshy' serves to emulate the state in which every young person would like to be.

Tuko Freshy is a debate program founded and run by Campde Voices under the principle, 'for young people, by young people'. The main goal of these debates is to create a safe-space for young people to engage and discourse with fellow young people on matters which affect young people.

While young people may not directly have the power to change government policies, they could at least influence it. However, there aren't sufficient platforms which young people could use to contribute to the deliberations regarding their futures, and therefore influence government policy to address their plight.

Therefore, the problem which this program is addressing is the lack of a platform where young people could directly contribute to the discussions and deliberations which directly affect them and their future. To this end, Tuko Freshy also serves to challenge the young people in attendance and also those watching the shows through our social media, to do what they can, with what they have, to improve their lives, communities, nation, continent, and world.

The goal for Tuko Freshy is to develop it into the platform of choice for young people to debate, share knowledge and ideas, and address their issues directly to their specific target audiences.

Our target demographic for these debates are young people between the ages of 18 – 35.
